TCIS Championship Victory for Field Hockey

Field Hockey- CHC 4, Norfolk Academy 3

After falling 2-0 in the previous regular season matchup, redemption came at the perfect moment for the Dolphins. Led by TCIS Tournament MVP Alexandra Land, the Dolphins scored three goals in the final six minutes en route to a 4-3 TCIS Championship victory for Cape Henry.

The Dolphins were on the board first as Alexandra played a ball across the circle with Norfolk Academy conceding an own goal in an attempt to break up the pass intended for Caroline Fluharty on the back post. The Bulldogs answered with nine minutes left in the first half, leading to a 1-1 tie at the half. With play beginning in the second half, Academy scored on a corner attempt minutes into play and took the lead, 2-1. Academy found the back of the cage again with 15 minutes left in regulation, bringing a hush over the Dolphin crowd as Academy took a 3-1 lead.

Refusing to go down easy, the Dolphins completed an epic comeback by scoring the final three goals with six minutes to play. Alexandra Land found the stick of Livy Wallace who finished the goal, bringing the score within one and breathing hope back into the Dolphin fans. Trailing 2-3, Alexandra Land blasted the ball by the Norfolk Academy keeper to tie the TCIS Finals, 3-3. Ali Gordon, whose strong play in the midfield aided the Dolphin victory, assisted the tying goal. With one minute on the clock, it was Alexandra Land finding the back of the cage to give Cape Henry a 4-3 lead. The ensuing attack from Academy was thwarted by a Dolphin defense of Olivia Zettervall, Lexia Hann, Chloe Mugler, Sadie Cohen, and Goalie Aleezah Adams.

The Dolphins advance to the Division 2 State quarterfinal on Tuesday, November 6, hosting Chatham Hall beginning at 4:00 pm.
