Dolphins travel to North Carolina for Great American XC Festival

The Dolphins traveled to Cary, North Carolina on Saturday afternoon for the biggest race of the year featuring over 300 racers in each division. The Dolphins earned two impressive finishes despite the abundance of talent throughout the competition.
On the boys’ side, the Dolphins returned home with 40th place out of 56 teams. Leading the charge on Saturday, Zach Earl set a new PR with a time of 17:58 for the Dolphins’ best finish of the night in 135th out 382 runners. Berk Alptekin finished second for the Dolphins, completing his afternoon in 18:10 and 165th place. Nick Damuth just missed out on the top-200, finishing the night with a time of 18:30. Connor Amet and Mitchell Cuthriell rounded out the top five scores with times of 19:03 and 19:48, respectively.
On the girls’ side, the Dolphins finished 18th out of 21 teams and produced numerous exciting finishes for the Dolphins. Highlighting the night, Avan Johnson’s 19th place finish earned medalist honors with a time of 21:32. Carlie Meyerholz continued a stellar season, completing the race with a time of 22:13 for 38th place. Cat Lestyan and Anabelle Denton each finished the race with a time of 25:18 as Lestyan nudged out Denton by .9 seconds. Rounding out the top-five on the girls’ side, Sadie Jolly completed a respectable 27:23 on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins are set to travel to Suffolk on Thursday afternoon for the Nansemond Suffolk Academy XC Meet, beginning at 4:00 pm.
