The Dolphins opened the season against the Knights from Peninsula Catholic on Monday afternoon, and after the full 90 minutes came to an end, the Dolphins pulled out the 5-0 victory. Emma Scott scored the first goal of the Varsity Girls Soccer season five minutes into play, setting the tone for the Dolphin attack. Cape Henry moved the ball around the field beautifully throughout the afternoon, especially using the midfield to switch the field and advance the ball into the offensive third. Behind a stellar defensive performance from both the back line and the midfield, Cape Henry held the Knights scoreless for the first 45 minutes. Returning to the pitch with a 1-0 lead for the start of the second half, the Dolphin attack came alive. Virginia Marquette scored on a deflection from the keeper to bring the tally to 2-0 in favor of CHC minutes into the half. Emily Ryan quickly followed suit, dribbling inside the 18 and drilling the ball inside the near post. Rounding out the 90 minutes of play, Olivia Zettervall scored two in the final 30 minutes to give Cape Henry the first win of the season. Zettervall and Kate Shepherd split the goal for the night and combined for the shutout on Monday night. Cape Henry (1-0) will host North Cross High School on Friday night, beginning at 4:30 pm.
