Girls Basketball- CHC 33, Steward 49

After matching the season win total from the previous season in the last game, the Dolphins dropped the second conference matchup of the season against the talented Spartans from Steward School on Thursday night. The Dolphins held the Spartans to nine points in the first quarter behind a tremendous defensive effort, but trailed by one, 8-9, at the end of the first quarter. The Spartans pulled ahead in the second as the Dolphins struggled to find the bottom of the net, and the score was in favor of Steward, 12-23, as the teams returned to the locker rooms for the half. The Dolphins and Spartans returned to the floor for the start of the third quarter, but the size of the Spartans interior was an issue for the Dolphins. Cape Henry fell behind 22-39 as the third quarter came to a close. Cape Henry picked up the defensive pressure in the fourth and outscored the Spartans 11-10 in the final eight minutes, but this was not enough to overcome the deficit from the second and third frames. Paris Beale led the Dolphin offense with 10 points, with Madisen Patrick adding nine for Cape Henry. Aleezah Adams (4), Izzy Schleifer (4), Amberly Butler (4), and Olivia Zettervall (2) rounded out the offense on Thursday night. Cape Henry (5-8, 3-2) will host StoneBridge on Monday night beginning at 5:00 pm.
