Varsity Swim – Boys 2nd, Girls 3rd, Combined 2nd

Boys: The Dolphins’ Swim team traveled to Suffolk for Nansemond Suffolk’s senior night, and through 24 events, Cape Henry took second place with a total of 228 points. Zack Frey led the charge for CHC, earning a 1st place finish in the 100-yard Fly. Frey followed his first place finish with an impressive 2nd place finish in the 200-yard Freestyle meet while finishing 26 seconds ahead of the third-place competitor. Sam Stanton provided the Dolphins with a strong outing in both the 100-yard Freestyle and the 100-yard Backstroke, earning 1st place in the 100-yard Backstroke by three seconds. Stanton also brought home a 3rd place finish in the 100-yard Freestyle to add to his outstanding night. George Sullivan grabbed a 3rd place finish in the 200-yard IM, finishing under the three-minute mark. The relay team of Gavin Cake, Robert Campbell, Zack Frey, and Sam Stanton guided the Dolphins to the second place finish with two top-3 finishes in the 200 Freestyle Relay and the 400 Freestyle Relay, bringing home 2nd place and 3rd place respectively. Individually, Robert Campbell and George Sullivan finished just outside of the top-3 in the 100-yard Backstroke to round out the night. The Dolphins will travel to Hampton Roads Academy on Wednesday, January 23 for the next competition.

Girls: The Dolphins’ Swim team traveled to Suffolk for Nansemond Suffolk’s senior night, and through 24 events, Cape Henry brought home 3rd place with a total of 259 points. Although the Dolphins finished in 3rd place, the girls’ side picked up an impressive seven 1st place finishes on the night. Leading the way were Kim Schooneman and Shannon Tadder, as the pair combined to earn five individual 1st place finishes and two relay 1st place finishes. Kim brought home the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard Breaststroke, while Shannon won the 200-yard Freestyle and the 100-yard Freestyle. Kate Vittone also picked up a 1st place finish for the Dolphins, taking the victory in the 100-yard Backstroke. Addison Cox added to an already outstanding night for the Dolphins, capturing a 2nd place finish in the 50-yard Freestyle. Anna Buba and Carlie Meyerholz provided the girls side with valuable points after finishing 3rd in the 100-yard Fly and 200-yard Freestyle respectively. Rounding out the top-3 finishes, the 200-yard Medley relay and 200-yard Freestyle Relay team of Kim Schooneman, Shannon Tadder, Addison Cox, and Kate Vittone brought home the 1st place finish in both competitions, while the 400-yard Freestyle Relay team of Elise Verfurth, Anna Buba, Avan Johnson, and Carlie Meyerholz earned 3rd. The Dolphins will travel to Hampton Roads Academy on Wednesday, January 23 for the next competition.
