Varsity Wrestling – Liberty Christian Invitational

The Dolphins traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia for the Liberty Christian Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Three of the 17 Dolphin competitors finished in the top-10, after two days of intense battles ensued. Leading the charge, Colby Kassir picked up a 2nd place finish after receiving a bye in the first round. In his second match of the day, Colby won by pinning his opponent one minute into the second period. In the Quarterfinal matchup, Colby won in a major decision after defeating his opponent 18-7. Colby narrowed out his semifinal opponent, 6-5, in a hard-fought battle before he ultimately fell in the final matchup. Despite the Championship loss, Colby picked up the highest finish for the Dolphins on Saturday. Brendan Hawley finished the day in 5th place after six intense matches, finishing 4-2 on the day. Brendan’s two losses came to two of the state’s top wrestlers in their respective weight class. Rounding out the top-10 finishes, Jackson Kassir came home with a 6th place finish after a 3-3 day on the mats. All 17 athletes competed admirably against a robust lineup of wrestling programs in the Liberty Christian Invitational. The Dolphins will host the first conference match-up of the year, taking on Norfolk Christian on Wednesday beginning at 5:30 pm.
