Boys Volleyball – CHC Defeats NCO After 5 Sets

Boys Volleyball- CHC 2, Norfolk Christian 3

In front of a lively crowd on Wednesday night, the Dolphins and Ambassadors from Norfolk Christian put on a show while needing all five sets to determine a winner. The Dolphins used the first set to shake off the nerves facing Norfolk Christian who sits atop the conference standings. A slow start for Cape Henry allowed the Ambassadors to take an early lead and with the Dolphins searching for a rhythm, Norfolk Christian pulled ahead 25-17 as the first set came to a close. The Dolphins, realizing they could compete with the talented Ambassadors sideline, came back from a five-point deficit to take the frame into extra points with the Ambassadors narrowly pulling out the 27-25 win. The Dolphins faced elimination, trailing 2-0, heading into the third set when everything clicked for Cape Henry, and the boys routed the Ambassadors by a score of 25-14. Cape Henry earned another victory in the fourth set after forcing Norfolk Christian to attack from the outside hitters rather than the devastating middle attack. A 25-20 win for Cape Henry meant the night would need the fifth set to determine a victor. The Dolphins brought the night down to the wire after a four-point swing gave the Dolphins a 13-11 lead. Needing two points to take the win from the Ambassadors, the boys lost the aggressive mentality that brought Cape Henry back into the match. Norfolk Christian tied the match, 15-15, before pulling ahead as the final attack hit the floor with Norfolk Christian earning the 17-15 win over Cape Henry. Thomas Couch contributed 20 assists on the night, with Danny Banister producing 12 kills. The Dolphins (6-3) will travel to Kempsville High School on Monday, October 15.
