The Dolphins traveled to Suffolk to take on the Saints from Nansemond Suffolk Academy on Monday night. The girls returned to Cape Henry after handing NSA an 8-1 defeat to bring the Dolphins record back to .500. The Dolphins were off to an early 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play behind Fiona Clunan and Charlotte Brown (8-2), Rachel Moore and Stephanie Strickland (8-4), and Halle Speight and Caroline Dixon (8-2). Heading into singles play, Cape Henry needed two more wins to solidify the conference victory, but the Dolphins would go on to win five of the six singles matches en route to the 8-1.

On the #1 court, Fiona Clunan’s performance sparked the Dolphins’ run, winning 6-1 and 6-0. Charlotte Brown battled back-and-forth on the #2 court, narrowly beating out her Saints opponent 6-4 and 6-3. Rachel Moore, competing on the #3 court, sealed the Dolphins’ win after defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-1 and giving the Dolphins a 6-0 lead in the match. Stephanie Strickland handed her opponent a 6-2 loss before the Saints’ #4 bounced back to steal the second frame by a score of 1-6. Heading into the tiebreaker, the Saints pulled ahead despite Stephanie’s outstanding performance. Rounding out the final courts, #5 Makenna DeTorres (6-2, 6-0) and #6 Halle Speight’s (6-1, 6-1) individual performances propelled the Dolphins to the team’s third conference win of the year. Cape Henry (3-3) is back tonight, traveling to Walsingham Academy for a 4:00 pm start.
