With the fall season wrapping up, Cape Henry Collegiate now moves onto the winter season where athletes and coaches have been preparing during the off-season to dominate the competition. CHC’s student-athletes are excited and ready to take on TCIS and beyond.
“What I’m most excited for is [that] the buy-in this year seems to be great,” Head Coach Mark Hall Jr. said.
Coach Hall is the varsity basketball coach for Cape Henry Collegiate and is excited for the season ahead. He is looking forward to see how the team works together as well as how they win together. They are led by seniors Chase Proto and Zack Duncan.
“This year we have several guys bringing energy to the table, more guys like Zack Duncan who will probably be one of our team captains this year,” Coach Hall said.
Coach Hall is proud of his team and takes pride in his leaders. It was no surprise that he had no hesitation in putting Zack Duncan as his choice for a strong role model for the team.
“He is energized every single day, and he definitely pushes guys during practice and throughout the school day,” Coach Hall said. “So, he is a constant role model for the group.”
Another staple of going to the varsity basketball games is to experience the cheer team on the sidelines supporting the players at all the home games.
“Mrs. Camp has high expectations of us which is great because that makes us better as a whole team,” senior captain Monica Rudolph said.
A leader who can both encourage and build confidence in others is crucial for success. Rudolph said fellow senior Eva Anol has risen to the challenge.
“She always gets really hype for the practices and the games by bringing out the spirit,” Rudolph said. “We all love her and we are very grateful to have her on the team.”
On girls basketball, senior captain Madeleine Keogh says Maya Harrington is the player who brings the energy on and off the court and pushes all her teammates to work harder than ever.
“She is always full of energy and the first one to get everyone else to step it up,” Keogh said. “She always plays with intensity and energy, which helps everyone else on the court.”
After losing three seniors last year the team is looking for new people to step up and become leaders.
“I am most excited about getting the opportunity to step into a new role on the team and be more influential on the court for my last season,” Keogh said. “I am also looking forward to all of the exciting moments with the team in the locker room, on the bus, and of course on the court.”
Wrestling has also been long awaiting the start of the winter season.
“Captains Adman Feldman, Townsend Winans, Thomas Radich, and Conner Walck are working hard and pushing forward to succeed in the first tournament of the season Dec. 2-3,” Head Coach Robert Woodhouse said. “Got a few 8th-Graders stepping up this year and helping fill the roster, but overall excited for a big season ahead.”
In addition to cheer, basketball, and wrestling, swim and track are also working overtime to beat the stopwatches. Cape Henry Collegiate is ready and enthusiastic about taking on the winter season and bringing home a couple more championship titles for the school.
