#6 Cape Henry Collegiate takes down top-seeded Green Run High School

The sixth-seeded Dolphins hosted Tidewater’s top-seeded Varsity Basketball program on Thursday night, winning 63-48 over the Stallions from Green Run High School. The Dolphins were off to a slow start on Thursday night, trailing by six midway through the first period. George Cutler broke the seal with a three-pointer for the Dolphins’ first points of the night. The Dolphins quickly took the lead and would not look back the remainder of the night. With Greg Melvin and Bryson Spell dominating the paint for the remaining four minutes, the Dolphins captured a 13-11 lead after the first quarter came to a close. Spell took control in the second quarter, scoring 10 points in the eight-minute period to give the Dolphins a 30-25 lead with two quarters remaining in the night. Throughout the second half, it was the guard play from Cape Henry, giving the Dolphins the advantage. Carrying the scoring for the final 16 minutes, Christian Moore, Jarrell Pope, George Cutler, and CJ Bailey combined for 23 of the 33 second-half points. With the final horn sounding, the Dolphins defeated the area’s number one seeded Green Run by a final score of 63-48. Greg Melvin finished the night with 16 points, leading the Dolphins in scoring. Bryson Spell added 15 points, scoring all 15 in the first half of play. George Cutler pitched in for 11 points, with Christian Moore and CJ Bailey each scoring seven. Rounding out the night’s scoring, Jarrell Pope contributed five points in the Dolphins’ Thursday night win. The Dolphins (5-1) are back in action Saturday night for a contest against Kings Fork, beginning at 7:30 pm on the road.
