The Dolphins hosted the Seahawks from Atlantic Shores Christian School on Monday night, battling for the entire 32-minute contest and falling just short in the final minutes of the night. The first quarter came to an end with the Seahawks holding on to a narrow one-point, 7-6, lead over the Dolphins. From this point, Cape Henry picked up the defensive pressure and forced numerous turnovers, which resulted in easy, transition baskets for the Dolphins. Scoring 15 points in the second period, the Dolphins took over the lead and carried a 21-18 score into the half. Atlantic Shores returned to the court for the second half with an adjusted game plan to break the Dolphin press. With the adjustments to the Seahawk offense, the Dolphins found themselves trailing at the end of the third quarter, 27-33. The fourth quarter brought an exciting, back-and-forth brand of basketball, with the Dolphins cutting the Seahawk lead to one with seconds left on the clock. The Dolphins failed to get a shot in the last 15 seconds of the night, and as time ticked away, Cape Henry fell 40-39 to Atlantic Shores. Jillian Somers led the Dolphins with 16 points on Monday night, with Izzy Schleifer pitching in for seven. Paris Beale once again dominated the boards and picked up six points. Elizabeth Wright and Mackenzie White each contributed four points, while Gabby Clark rounded out the scoring with two points. The Dolphins (0-2) are back in action Thursday for a contest with Christchurch, beginning at 5:00 pm at Cape Henry Collegiate.
