Dolphins fall in John Stone Championship

In the Championship matchup of the John Stone Tournament at Christchurch, the Dolphins were introduced to the first TCIS competition of the season, taking on Norfolk Collegiate. The Oaks found an early lead and never looked back on Saturday night. By the end of the first half, the Oaks commanded a five-point lead over the Dolphins, 19-14. Despite a consistent second quarter from the Dolphins, Collegiate held onto the lead at the half, carrying a 35-28 lead after the first 16 minutes were played. The Dolphins cut into the lead throughout the third quarter, but the scoring from Norfolk Collegiate’s stellar guard proved to make the difference on Saturday. Norfolk Collegiate entered the fourth quarter holding onto a 53-48 lead. As the Dolphins were forced to foul late in the contest, the Oaks extended the fourth-quarter lead and held on to win 65-58 over the Dolphins. Greg Melvin led the Dolphin scoring with 31 points, with CJ Bailey adding 11. Christian Moore pitched in for six, with George Cutler scoring four, Bryson Spell scoring three, and Jarrell Pope rounding out the scoring with three. The Dolphins are back in action Thursday, December 13 at Nansemond Suffolk, beginning at 4:00 pm.
