The Dolphins opened the regular season against the Dolphins from Ocean Lakes High School on Wednesday night at Cape Henry Collegiate, with Ocean Lakes pulling away in the second half to defeat Cape Henry 35-49. Cape Henry’s in-your-face defense created numerous turnovers throughout the first quarter as Cape Henry took an early two-point lead after the first eight minutes were in the book. Continuing a fast-paced, high-pressure defensive plan, Cape Henry extended the lead to six, holding on to a 23-17 lead over Ocean Lakes at the half. Returning to the hardwood for the start of the second half, Ocean Lakes picked up the defensive intensity and forced Cape Henry to break the full-court press. Ocean Lakes flipped the halftime lead and carried a 29-34 lead into the final quarter of the night. As Cape Henry’s turnover woes continued throughout the fourth quarter, Ocean Lakes extended the lead to 35-49 at the final whistle. Despite the Dolphins’ loss, Cape Henry will continue to grow throughout the season and are poised to give the TCIS a strong run in 2020. Leading the Cape Henry scoring on the night, Paris Beale dominated the low block, picking up 11 points and several rebounds along the way. Gabby Clark pitched in for eight points in her first regular-season Varsity contest. Captain Izzy Schleifer netted six on the night, while Mackenzie White contributed five. Jillian Somers and Kate Shepherd rounded out the Dolphins scoring with Somers scoring three and Shepherd scoring two. The Dolphin (0-1) will play Green Run High School at Catholic on Saturday, December 7, beginning at 2:00 pm.
