Varsity Boys Soccer – Dolphins make history on Friday night, winning third-straight Division I State Championship

CHC 1, St. Christopher’s 0 Goal: Parker Mann, Assist: Trevor Kidd

For the first time in VISAA Division I history, the Dolphins from Cape Henry Collegiate won a third-straight State Championship, winning, 1-0, over the Saints from St. Christopher’s. The Saints would not make it easy for the Dolphins, consistently sending pressure on the Dolphin defenders attempting to build the attack from the backline. Under control and poised despite the pressure, Jack Kainer, Carter Atherton, and Connor Garrison routinely found holes in the Saints’ attempts. Despite multiple chances on frame in the first half from each side, the score remained 0-0 after the first 40 minutes were finished. In the second half, the Dolphins appeared to shake off the pressure of winning a third-straight State Championship, playing with a much more balanced approached. Despite a physical Saints’ defensive line, Cape Henry Collegiate finally found the back of the net. In the 60th minute of the night, Trevor Kidd stepped up to take the free-kick from just outside the 18. From the left side of the field, Kidd placed a ball on the far post where it was Parker Mann coming to the rescue and finishing the first and only score of the night. The Dolphins withstood the onslaught of Saint attempts to play the big ball into the Cape Henry 18 and held on to win the third-straight Division I Championship, 1-0. With the third win in four appearances, the Dolphins made history in the Division I Soccer Championships, becoming the first program to win three-straight Championships.
