The Dolphins hosted the Navigators from Hampton Roads Academy on Tuesday night for the quarterfinal round of the DII VISAA State Tournament, with the Dolphins capturing the 6-0 win en route to the State semifinals. Five minutes into play, the Dolphins were on the board as Kenzie Dillon recorded the assist to Cameron Dodzik, giving Cape Henry the 1-0 lead. Ali Gordon followed Dodzik’s goal with the second score of the night within five minutes of the opening goal. The Dolphins controlled possession of the ball throughout the first half, pinning the Navigators in their defensive half for the majority of the night. Midway through the first half, Caroline Fluharty extended the Dolphin lead to three with an unassisted goal with 11 minutes remaining in the half. Continuing a stellar outing, Ali Gordon finished off her second goal of the night to give the Dolphins a four-goal lead with five minutes remaining in the half. Rounding out the first half, Wies Veenstra put the Dolphins ahead by five with a goal of her own as the Cape Henry carried a five-goal lead into halftime. The Dolphins committed to providing valuable State experience to the entire roster on Tuesday night, with the Dolphins finishing the night 6-0. Rounding out the night’s scoring, Cassie Thompson finished the contest with the final score at the six-minute mark. Aleezah Adams and Tori Winans split time in the cage, combining for the shutout as Winans recorded five saves in the Dolphins’ win. Cape Henry advanced to the semifinal round with the win over the Navigators and are set to travel to the Evergreen Sportsplex in Leesburg, Virginia, beginning at 2:00 pm on Friday.
