VISAA Soccer Quarterfinals – Dolphins advance to DI State semifinals with win over Trinity Episcopal

The Dolphins hosted the second round of the DI State Tournament as the number one overall seed on Monday afternoon, defeating Trinity Episcopal, 5-0, to advance to the tournament’s semifinal round. The Dolphins opened the scoring in the 12th minute of Monday’s contest as Kyle Usonis recorded the assist to Gavin Dooren, giving Cape Henry a 1-0 lead. Trevor Kidd followed Dooren’s score with back-to-back goals en route to a 3-0 lead for the Dolphins with 14 minutes remaining in the first half. The Dolphins carried the 3-0 lead into halftime and returned to the pitch to score two more on Monday night. With 17 minutes remaining in regulation, Chris Clunan found Byron Richards in front of the cage as Richards buried the Dolphins’ fourth of the night. Minutes before stoppage time, Chris Clunan found the back of the net on Mason Dudley’s assist to seal the 5-0 victory in the DI State Quarterfinals. The Dolphins are back in action on Wednesday night, taking on the Bulldogs from Norfolk Academy at City Stadium in Richmond, Virginia, beginning at 5:30 pm.
