The Dolphins and Bulldogs traveled to the National Training Center for the 2019 TCIS Field Hockey Finals on Friday afternoon, as Cape Henry Collegiate returned with the second-straight Championship trophy in a 2-1 win over Norfolk Academy. The Bulldogs opened the scoring on Friday with the game’s first at the nine-minute mark to take a 1-0 lead over Cape Henry. From this point, the Dolphins controlled possession of the ball but were unable to find the back of the cage until Gini Kainer broke the scoring drought for Cape Henry with three minutes remaining in the first half. Kainer’s goal tied the TCIS Finals, 1-1, at the midway point. With the second half underway, the Dolphins once again controlled possession of the ball and searched for the goal to take the lead. Midway through the final half, Kenzie Dillon found the ball on her stick despite the chaos in front of the Bulldog cage. With one swing of her stick, Dillon gave the Dolphins the first and final lead of the night as the Dolphins went ahead, 2-1. In the final moments of the night, the Bulldogs received a corner as time expired. As a result, the Dolphins would need one last stop to claim the second-straight TCIS Tournament championship. After the initial save from Aleezah Adams, she followed with another clutch diving save as the Dolphins’ defense was able to clear the ball out of the circle and hang on to win, 2-1, over the Bulldogs. The TCIS Champion and number one seeded Dolphins are back in action Tuesday night for the first round of the DII State Tournament against Hampton Roads Academy, beginning at 4:30 pm on Trinder Field.
