Dolphins find back of the net twice on Friday in win over Cougars

The Dolphins hosted the #4 DI ranked Cougars from Collegiate of Richmond on Friday night and pulled out a 2-0 win in the fast-paced contest on the Dolphin’s home pitch. The Dolphins and Cougars traded blows throughout the first half, with both sides failing to find the back of the net early in Friday’s matchup. With eight minutes remaining in the first half, the Dolphins broke the lid off the cage as Jack Kainer scored the first goal of the night. Carter Atherton picked up his first assist of the night on the play to give Cape Henry a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Returning to the pitch for the second half, The Cougars sped up the pace of play, forcing the Dolphins to make quicker decisions on the ball. The Dolphins found the back of the net once more with 35 minutes remaining in the night as Gavin Dooren finished the assist from Carter Atherton to give Cape Henry a 2-0 lead on the night. With a frantic pace to the night, both sides traded possession of the ball throughout the remaining 30 minutes with the Dolphins holding on to win 2-0 over the DI State opponent. Matt Vander Werff added several important saves late in the night to hold onto the shutout for the Dolphins. Cape Henry (11-1) is back in action Thursday night for a TCIS contest with the Saints from Nansemond Suffolk Academy.
