Dolphins fall to the Oaks on the road

The Dolphins returned to ODU for the second time this week, taking on the Oaks from Norfolk Collegiate on Thursday afternoon. Facing blistering heat and humidity, the Dolphins fell behind quickly in doubles play, dropping all three courts by a score of 8-3. The Dolphins would need at least five singles wins to pull out the victory on Thursday afternoon, but fell short of the goal in Thursday night’s loss to the Oaks. Despite the lone win for the Dolphins, competitive matches ensued on each of the six courts. Highlighting the Dolphin performances, Halle Speight earned the win as her opponent was retired after a late rally injury. Speight posted a 6-7, 6-1 result before her opponent retired in the overtime play. Joining Speight with exceptional play, Mary Turner Shipp battled to a 3-6, 4-6 result on the number four court. Caroline Dixon entered the fold after a Dolphin injury on court two and battled to a 4-6, 3-6 result on the number six court. Next up, the Dolphins (2-3) will host the Seahawks from Atlantic Shores tonight beginning at 4:00 pm.
