Dolphins earn first conference win over Ambassadors

The Dolphins traveled to Norfolk Christian on Tuesday night for the first conference matchup of the season, with Cape Henry earning a commanding win over the Ambassadors. The Dolphins put the match away within the first ten minutes of the night, rattling off three quick scores. Trevor Kidd kick-started the action with the first goal of the night, as Gavin Dooren contributed his first assist of the night. Moments later, Kyle Usonis found his groove, drilling the second goal of the night into the back of the frame. Parker Mann picked up the assist on Usonis’ score. Rounding out the first ten minutes, Jack Kainer found the scoreboard as he drilled a free-kick past the Ambassador keeper to bring the tally to 3-0 in favor of the Dolphins. As the night progressed, Cape Henry remained focused on a team-oriented style of play with the final five goals all with a recorded assist. Kyle Usonis and Mason Dudley teamed up for the fourth score of the night, with Usonis scoring his second goal of the first half. Usonis continued to dominate play, assisting the next two goals from Jack Kainer and Trevor Kidd. Chris Clunan and Gavin Dooren connected twice to close out the night, with the pair returning assist favors as each picked up one assist and one goal to bring the final score to 8-0. In total, scoring on the night, Trevor Kidd (2), Kyle Usonis (2), Jack Kainer (2), Chris Clunan, and Gavin Dooren. Assisting on the night, Gavin Dooren (2), Kyle Usonis (2), Parker Mann, Mason Dudley, and Chris Clunan. Matt Vander Werff and Marco Benedetto combined for the shutout in goal, with Kyle Usonis earning Man of the Match honors on Tuesday night. The Dolphins (3-0) will take on Norfolk Collegiate for a rematch of 2018’s TCIS Championship on Thursday, September 12 at Cape Henry Collegiate.
