Trevor Kidd – Athlete of the Week – September 9, 2019
Varsity Boys’ Soccer has experienced two of the most successful seasons in Cape Henry Collegiate soccer history after collecting two Division I State Championships and two TCIS Championships in as many seasons. This week’s Athlete of the Week, senior Trevor Kidd, has seen his role increase throughout the historic stretch and is poised to make 2019 the best season of his career. Through two games on the pitch this season, Kidd has accepted the captain title and has hit the ground running, propelling the Dolphins to a 2-0 record.
“Often, guys get to their senior year and think they can cruise through practice, wait on games, and leave the grind to the younger, less experienced athletes,” Head Coach Dave Brun began of Trevor Kidd. “What has stood out for me with Trevor is the moment you see a kid come to full maturity in his actions on and off the field. This started with the workouts he put himself through in the spring. He is determined to make his last Cape Henry season his best.”
Trevor, as a sophomore, began his ascent with Cape Henry Collegiate Varsity Soccer, filling a role vital to Cape Henry Collegiate’s brand of soccer. Always possessing the threat to rip the ball into the back of the net, Trevor frequently deferred to his impeccable touch and ability to swing a cross in from the wing. Splitting time between the left and right-wing, Kidd has become known for his intuitive crosses into the box, often finding a runner striding into the 18. With the start of 2019 underway, the Dolphins have relied on Trevor to no longer defer to the cross and complete his play with the ability to stick the ball on frame.
“Trevor opened our season with a hat trick of assists and set up key goals for teammates with aggressive, penetrating runs combined with a team-first attitude. He’s made some impressive decisions with the ball. He followed his three-assist performance with a hat trick of goals to blow open a close halftime scoreline in Kitty Hawk,” Dave Brun continued of Trevor Kidd.
The Dolphins opened the season with a win over Currituck High School, where Kidd continued his dominance of the right-wing. Throughout the night, Kidd continued to pepper balls into the opponents’ 18 with thoughtful crosses consistently finding Dolphins making a run into the box. His onslaught of crosses resulted in three assists to open the season. Following a hat-trick of assists, Kidd took matters into his own hands and extended a narrow halftime lead with three goals of his own in a 5-2 win over a perennially talented First Flight High School. While Kidd’s performances in games have certainly caught the attention of the Dolphins’ future opponents, his determination in practice has set the tone for the remainder of Cape Henry Collegiate’s Varsity Soccer.
“Trevor has shown up excited to train each day, where he consistently takes the lead in warm-ups. Without a doubt, Trevor has been one of the hardest-working, if not the hardest-working player in every session. I’m proud and grateful for the maturity he has brought this year,” Coach Brun finished of Trevor Kidd.
Through two games this season, Kidd boasts three goals and four assists, resulting in a 2-0 start to the 2019 Varsity Soccer season. Time will tell what is in store for the 2019 Dolphins. However, one thing is certain, Trevor Kidd is prepared to push his teammates to become better each day with sights set on a third-straight TCIS and Division I State title. The Dolphins will return to action Tuesday, September 10 for a contest with Norfolk Christian on the Ambassadors’ pitch.
