The Track and Field season wrapped up Saturday at the VISAA Championships in Richmond.  Focusing on individual performances at the meet, the team brought home some hardware and set some new school records.

The highlight of the day came in the boys DI mile featuring Owen Richards.  Owen took the race out at a fast, but comfortable pace, allowing a runner from Woodberry Forrest to set the pace.  The two continued a fast, but not ridiculous pace for through the half-mile mark.  Sensing his opportunity, Owen let loose a scream and took the lead.  The Woodberry runner, as well as the rest of the field, was unable to respond to Owen’s surge.  Owen continued to expand on his lead the last 6oo meters, winning the mile in 4:24.68, a new school record and becoming the first male Dolphin to win an individual track title.  Owen was named first-team All-State for his efforts.  He doubled back in the 3200m run, managing to earn the bronze on a very warm afternoon.

While Owen Richards was the highlight of the day, there were certainly other notable performances.  The girls’ 4x100m relay team of Natalie Hubbard, Caroline Beaulieu, Hannah Gunn, and Gabriella Gianascoli grabbed the bronze in a thrilling finish, being named All-State Honorable Mention in the process.  Caroline Beaulieu also grabbed 6th in the Discus with a throw of 86-10, a 10 foot PR.  Hannah Gunn earned 8th in the Triple Jump.  Danny Banister set a new school record in the Triple Jump with a jump of 41-7.
