May 18th – Girls Lacrosse – VISAA State Semi-Finals and Finals Tournament
Girls Lacrosse- CHC 15, Foxcroft 7 (Semifinal)
The Dolphins traveled to the Highland School for the VISAA State Semi-finals on Friday afternoon, and earned a Championship berth with a 15-7 win over Foxcroft. The Dolphins dominated the first 25 minutes of the night as Cape Henry raced out to a 12-3 lead at the half. Foxcroft made a run late in the night, but the exceptional play from Aleezah Adams in goal and the supporting efforts of the Dolphin defensive line held Foxcroft to four second-half scores. Claire Bingham led the charge with four goals, while Charlotte Purkey and Kenzie Dillon each netted three. Mary Grace Fowler and Madisen Patrick each scored two, while Libby Kennedy rounded out the offense with one goal. Defensively, Lexia Hann forced four turnovers while Aleezah Adams made four crucial saves. The semifinal win over Foxcroft propelled the Dolphins into the State Finals on Saturday afternoon.
Girls Lacrosse- CHC 11, Highland 21 (Finals)
The Dolphins took on Division II’s top-seeded Highland School for the finals of the VISAA State Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins were neck and neck with the top-seeded Hawks throughout the first half on Saturday. With the first 25 minutes in the book, the Dolphins trailed 5-6. In the second half, Highland took control of the draw and raced out to a 15-6 goal differential. With the final 25 minutes concluded, the Dolphins fell 21-11 to the top-seeded Highland School. Claire Bingham and Libby Kennedy each found the back of the net three times, with Mary Grace Fowler scoring twice. Rounding out the offense on Saturday afternoon, Charlotte Purkey and Lexia Hann scored one goal apiece. The Dolphins finish the season with a respectable State Tournament Runner-up.
