Track and Field- Boys 1st, Girls 3rd

Track and Field- Boys 1st, Girls 3rd

It was a memorable night for the Track and Field team as the boys took home the invitational team title, winning the Walsingham Invitational. Owen Richards and Danny Banister led the charge on the boys’ side of competition, with both Owen and Danny combining for five individual gold medals.  Richards pulled off the tough triple distance victory, winning the 800, 1600, and 3200 and scoring 30 points in the process.  Banister continues to impress in his first season, as he grabbed gold in the 100m and long jump, silver in the 200, and bronze in the triple jump.  Rounding out Banister’s night, a 4th place finish in the 400 gave Banister a total of 39 points for the day.  The 4×800 meter relay team of Briggs Standing, Landon Clay, Carter Ward, and Berk Alptekin also impressed on Monday afternoon, grabbing the gold for the Dolphins. However, as the meet came down the final even, the Dolphins trailed by 9 points, and a win in the 4×400 would grab the boys a team title.  The 4×400 team of Standing, Clay, William Wei, and Joey Gianascoli did not disappoint, as Standing was able to run a splendid anchor leg to hold off the hard-charging team from Walsingham to complete the gold.

The girls’ team had an excellent night also, taking third in the eight-team field.  As the Dolphins have become accustomed to, Claire Bingham and Lexia Hann led the way.  Hann grabbed two victories, easily winning the 1600 before returning to earn a hard-fought, come from behind victory in the 3200.  Bingham’s lone gold medal on the night was in the triple jump, but she was also able to grab silver in the long jump and 400 while notching the bronze in the 100 and 200.  It was also a strong night for the relays teams, as Natalie Hubbard, Caroline Beaulieu, Hannah Gunn, and Gab Gianascoli teamed up twice in the 4×100 and 4×400, bringing home the silver each time.  The team has a short break, as they will compete again on Thursday at Norfolk Academy.
