The Dolphins hosted the Oaks from Norfolk Collegiate on Thursday afternoon and earned a 6-3 victory in the first TCIS match of the year. Kicking off the competition, the number one doubles court of Grahame Brown and Flynn Somers defeated their Oaks opponents, 8-1. Following suit, the number 2 doubles pair of Nick Hubbard and Byron Richards matched the number 1 doubles court with a final score of 8-1. Leading 2-0 after two matches, Andrew Rachels and Gianni Bezada-Schenone dropped a closely contested matchup on the number 3 doubles court by a score of 7-8. With singles play underway, Grahame Brown continued his winning ways sweeping his Oaks opponent, 6-0, 6-0. Flynn Somers followed Brown’s lead, sweeping his court-two opponent, 6-0, 6-0. The Dolphins now commanded a 4-1 lead over the Oaks, with number 3, Nick Hubbard’s match underway. Hubbard proceeded to defeat his opponent, 6-2, 6-2 just before Byron Richards sealed the Dolphin victory with a 6-4, 6-3 win on the number four singles court. Grayson Barnes and Connor Smith battled through a tiebreaker on the number five and number six singles courts, respectively, but ultimately fell to bring the total score to 6-3 in favor of the Dolphins. Cape Henry is back in action tonight as the Dolphins travel to Bishop Sullivan Catholic for a 4:00 pm start.
