Track and Field- Boys 5th, Girls 5th

The Track and Field team kicked off the season on Saturday at Norfolk Academy.  Braving blustery conditions, both the girls’ and the boys’ teams finished 5th in the 15-team field.  Claire Bingham and captain Caroline Beaulieu led the girls with impressive performances in each event they competed. Bingham kick-started the scoring with a win in the long jump, jumping 16-7.5.  Immediately following, Beaulieu PRed in the Discus, improving her best by four feet with a throw of 52-02.  Bingham was not to be outdone though, grabbing 3rd in the 200m dash with a PR of 27.24.  On the boys’ side, Cape Henry scored early and often as Owen Richard led the charge with first place in both the 1600 and 3200.  In the 3200m, Zach Earl grabbed third, breaking 11:00 for the first time with a run of 10:59.  In the mile, Berk Alptekin broke the 5:00 barrier, clocking in at 4:59.  The sprinters and jumpers were led by Ethan Jones and Carter Ward, as both boys earned their best in the long jump. Jones earning a jump of 19-1.75 and Ward earning 18-6.  Jones also grabbed 7th in the 200m dash, with a time of 24.15, while Ward earned a PR in the 400 with a time of 57.95.  The team returns to action on Thursday at Greenbrier Christian School’s meet.
