Varsity Baseball: CHC 15 vs. USA Home School 0

The Dolphins opened the regular season at home against USA Home School, and the Dolphins pulled away quickly behind a 12-run first inning from the offense and a combined two-hitter from the Dolphin pitching staff. Alex Gianascoli earned the start from the mound on Monday afternoon and set the tone with two strikeouts in the top of the first, allowing only one base runner on a walk. The Dolphins were off to the races in the bottom of the inning, as all nine Cape Henry starters reached base. Trent Jones kick-started the scoring run with a triple in his first at-bat. Kyle Edwards and Dane Hoggard each scored on the play after reaching base on an error and walk, respectively. Following a string of base on balls, Kyle Edwards approached the plate for the second time around the order and drilled a hard-hit ground ball past the third baseman for two more runs. Kenny Schaedel and Bryce Jones scored on the play. With the bases now loaded, Trent Jones hit a line drive to left field and picked up his third RBI of the inning. Alex Gianascoli gave the Dolphins the 12th and final run of the inning on a single up the middle. Gianascoli, returning to the mound for the top of the second inning, picked up his fifth strikeout of the afternoon on a three-up, three-down, 12-pitch inning. The Dolphin offense added two runs in the second and one in the bottom of the fourth before Brendan Hawley entered the game to close out Monday’s contest with two strikeouts and no runs from the mound. Hawley also picked up his first Varsity hit from the plate. Also adding their first Varsity hits, Aidan Graham, Cooper Angilly, and Jack Wickum each contributed to the Dolphin offense. Cape Henry (1-0) will host Peninsula Catholic for the first TCIS game of the year on Friday before traveling to Richmond for back-to-back games on Saturday.
