TCIS Tournament Win – CHC Advances to Semifinals

Varsity Boys Basketball advanced to the TCIS semifinals with a 76-69 win over Norfolk Collegiate on Tuesday night behind 20-point performances from Dajour Rucker and Danny Banister. The Dolphins found the bottom of the net early and often in the first quarter of Tuesday night’s matchup with the Oaks as Cape Henry raced off to a 12-5 start. The Oaks cut into the lead in the closing minutes of the first quarter, but Cape Henry held onto a 15-9 lead as Banister and Rucker combined for 13 of the 15 first-quarter points. Danny and Dajour continued their offensive onslaught in the second quarter, as Danny knocked down three 3-pointers and added a mid-range jump shot for 11 in the second quarter alone. With Dajour adding six points in the paint, the Dolphins extended the lead to 13 and carried a 37-24 score into the half. Returning to the court for the second half, the Dolphins appeared to take their foot off the gas, and the Oaks made a run to cut into the 13-point deficit. With Norfolk Collegiate trailing by 9, 50-41, Cape Henry needed a turnover-free final quarter to advance to the conference semifinal. Norfolk Collegiate cut the lead to as little as seven points in the fourth quarter, but Dajour’s presence in the paint along with 14 of 19 made free throws from the team led Cape Henry to a second victory over the Oaks. Dajour Rucker led all scorers with 28 points, with Danny Banister adding 20 along the way. Christian Moore also hit double digits, scoring 11 points and picking up a handful of timely assists. George Cutler (5), CJ Bailey (5), Bryson Spell (3), Erik Clark (2), and Greg Melvin (2) each found score column in Tuesday night’s matchup. The Dolphins (21-4) will advance to the TCIS semifinal against Bishop Sullivan on Friday night beginning at 5:00 pm at Hampton Roads Academy.
