Indoor Track and Field- Boys 3rd, Girls 3rd

The Indoor Track and Field program traveled to Boo Williams Sportsplex for the Norfolk Academy Invitational featuring many of the top programs across Virginia. After a long night of running, sprinting, and jumping, both the Dolphins’ boys and girls programs finished in 3rd place in the field of 15.

Owen Richards led the charge for the boys, finishing 1st in both the one-mile and the 1000m. Richards’ one-mile performance of 4:30 was enough to defeat the nearest competitor by 15 seconds. While Owen took home 1st in the 1000m, his teammate Grant Shepherd also impressed the field with a 2nd place finish. Briggs Standing and Berk Alptekin rounded out the Dolphins’ 1000m performances with top-10 finishes of their own. Continuing the running events, the 4x400m team of Briggs Standing, Grant Shepherd, Owen Richards, and Ethan Jones brought home a 2nd place performance. Individually, Jones also finished the 300m in 3rd place. Rounding out the long distance runs, Zach Earl and Berk Alptekin finished the 3200m neck-and-neck with a 3rd place and 4th place finish, respectively. In the jumping event, Carter Ward was the top-performer, winning the triple jump by nearly one foot.

On the girls’ side, Claire Bingham and Lexia Hann propelled the Dolphins to a 3rd place finish. Claire, competing in the jumping events as well as the sprinting events, totaled three 2nd place finishes and one 3rd place finish on Tuesday night. Bingham kicked off her night with a second place finish in both the Long Jump and the Triple Jump before taking to the track for a 2nd place finish in the 55m dash and a 3rd place finish in the 300m. Lexia Hann followed suit and brought home 2nd place in the one-mile and a top-10 finish in the 1000m. Rounding out the top girls’ performances, the 4×200 relay team completed competition in 2nd place. The Dolphins are back in action on February 16 for the State Indoor Track and Field Tournament.
