VISAA Winter Track and Field Championship

Indoor Track and Field- Boys 14th, Girls 18th

The Winter Track and Field team wrapped up their season Saturday at the VISAA Championships at St. Christopher’s.  The boys took 14th in the state while the girls were 18th. While the team standings did not reflect the overall progress and hard work of the second Indoor Track and Field season, there were several outstanding performances.  Battling illness, Owen Richards took 2nd in the 1600m run with a time of 4:35.  Owen ran a tactical race by setting a swift pace early on, opening a sizable gap on most of the field.  Claire Bingham took 5th in the triple jump, a remarkable performance for Bingham in an event she first learned this season. Bingham continued to impress the State competition as she completed the 55m Dash with an 11th place finish in a time of 7.86s, as well as, finishing the 300m Dash in 10th place with a time of 43.84s. Hannah Gunn joined Claire for the Triple Jump and represented CHC admirably, finishing the tournament in 11th place. Other highlights of the day included Carter Ward’s 10th place finish in the triple jump, Briggs Standing outstanding PR in the 1000m run, and Lexia Hann’s 10th place finish in the mile. Lexia also fell just outside of the top-10 in the 3200m run, finishing in 12th place with a time of 12:56.13. It has been a remarkable season for the Indoor Track and Field program which will regroup and prepare for the Outdoor Track and Field season in the Spring.
