The Dolphins remained perfect halfway through conference play on Thursday night against the Spartans from Steward School, holding onto the lead for the final 24 minutes en route to a 64-51 victory for Cape Henry. The Dolphins were off to a slower start as the Dolphins faced a 7-footer in the paint for the Spartans, and as a result, the score remained tied, 9-9, at the end of the first quarter. The Dolphins went on a dominating 23-0 run in the second quarter and limited the Spartans to seven points, with all of Steward’s points coming in the final minute of the second quarter. As the teams returned to the court for the second half with the score in favor of the Dolphins, 37-16, Cape Henry lifted the foot off the gas, and the Spartans brought the score within four points at the end of the third quarter. Cape Henry regrouped and returned in full force for the final eight minutes and defeated the Spartans 64-51 behind Christian Moore’s 21 points. Dajour Rucker added 16 points, while CJ Bailey poured in a season-high 14 and carried the Dolphins in the 23-0 run. Greg Melvin contributed nine with EJ Clark (2) and Lane Carlson (2) rounding out the scoring efforts. The Dolphins (12-4, 6-0) will travel to Granby High School for the Hampton Roads Winter Classic beginning at 8:00 pm tonight.
