Indoor Track and Field- Boys 2nd, Girls 2nd

After a few solid weeks of practice following Winter Break, the Track and Field team appeared to be rounding into form at Wednesday’s Track meet at Boo Williams.  The Boys’ had their most impressive finish ever, taking 2nd in the field of 14 schools, while the girls equaled the boys, taking 2nd in the field of 13 schools. The boys were led by Owen Richards, as Owen took first in the 3200m run, clocking a 9:57– a time that ranks him second in the state.  Owen was joined by teammates Zach Earl and Nick Damuth, who both set PRs and earned 4th and 5th, respectively.  Richards later won the mile, while teammate Berk Alptekin grabbed 4th.  Grant Sheppard and Briggs standing also had impressive showings, Grant grabbing 2nd in the 1000m, while Briggs was 5th.  While Cape Henry was dominant in the distance event, the team also impressed in the jumps.  Senior John Ermini notched his first ever victory in the triple jump, setting a PR of 38-2, while Carter Ward chipped in for a 3rd place finish in the event.  Senior captains Claire Bingham and Lexia Hann led the girls, as Lexia kicked off the meet with a big win in two-mile, setting a PR with a time of 12:32.  Bingham dominated the field in the 300m, winning with a time of 44.0.  Bingham also took 3rd in the long jump and triple jump.  Teammate Hannah Gunn grabbed 8th in the long jump and 4th in the triple jump, while the 4x200m relay team made up of Claire Bingham, Katie DiBona, Eva Dickie, and Libby Kennedy earned 4th in the field.  The Dolphins will compete in the Private School Invite at Georgetown Prep on February 2.
