Wrestling- CHC 48, Norfolk Academy 27

The Dolphins hosted the Bulldogs from Norfolk Academy on Wednesday night, and with a palpable sense of energy filling the room, the Dolphins earned a crucial conference victory. The matchup kicked off with the 220-pound weight class where Reed Truxell battled his Bulldog opponent down to the wire. Two seconds before the pair entered the third and final period, Reed caught his counterpart on his back to record a pin. Cape Henry sent out Parker Tanner-Vigil in the 285-pound weight class, with Parker earning CHC six more points behind a forfeit victory. Academy picked up their first points of the night after Aiden Altamura (106) wrestled valiantly but was ultimately overcome after nearly five minutes. Shane Ciolfi (113) put the Dolphins back on track, pinning his opponent with one second remaining in the first period to give Cape Henry an 18-6 lead. However, the Bulldogs picked up two back-to-back wins to narrow the Dolphins’ lead to 18-15.

Carrying only a three-point lead, the Dolphins began to assert their conference dominance, rattling off five-straight wins beginning with Brendan Hawley in the 132-pound weight class. Brendan’s match lasted an exhausting six minutes, ending with Hawley capturing three points for the Dolphins after a 9-5 decision. Tucker Bruner (138) followed suit, giving the Dolphins six points with a pin 12 seconds before the third period. Aedan Somers (145) wasted no time taking his opponent to the mat, pinning his counterpart in 53 seconds to extend the lead to 33-15. Sam Goshgarian (152) and Colin Sharp (160) followed Aedan’s performance with pins of their own to seal the victory for Cape Henry. The Dolphins carried a 45-15 lead into the 170-pound match up where Gianni Bezada-Schenone wrestled up several weight classes. Gianni held off the Bulldog’s top wrestler for nearly two minutes before ultimately taking the fall. Colby Kassir rounded out the scoring for Cape Henry, earning a hard-fought 6-3 decision to give CHC a 48-21 lead. Jackson Kassir (195) wrapped up the match, selflessly wrestling up one weight class. Unfortunately, Jackson fell at the 3:46 mark after controlling the match for nearly the full three and a half minutes. The Dolphins (2-0) have a quick turn around, wrestling both Greenbrier Christian and Norfolk Collegiate tonight beginning at 4:30 pm.
