Girls Basketball- CHC 44, Norfolk Collegiate 39

The Varsity Girls Basketball team hosted the Oaks from Norfolk Collegiate in the conference opener on Tuesday night, and despite a five-point win for the Dolphins, the girls were well in control for the entire 32-minute effort. Cape Henry was off to an early six-point lead after the first quarter came to a close, leading the Oaks 16-10. The defensive efforts picked up in the second as the girls limited the Oaks to six second-quarter points. The defensive showcase in the second led Cape Henry to a 26-16 lead at the break. While the Dolphin offense slowed in the opening quarter of the second half, the Dolphins still commanded a 32-21 lead heading into the final eight minutes. The Oaks made a push late in the fourth as the Dolphins attempted to run out the clock. However, the girls grabbed 12 points in the closing frame and earned the first conference win of the season by a score of 44-39. Nadia Norman exploded for 21 points behind five 3-pointers, while Madisen Patrick reached double digits with 10 points. Patrick also contributed eight assists on the night while Emily Ryan grabbed nine boards. Mackenzie White (2), Izzy Schleifer (2), Amberly Butler (2), Aleezah Adams (3), and Emily Ryan (4) each found the bottom of the net on Tuesday night. Cape Henry (3-5) will host the Crusaders from Bishop Sullivan on Friday night with tip-off set for 5:30 pm.
