The Dolphins played the home opener on Tuesday night, welcoming the Cougars from Surry County High School. The Dolphins were off to an early lead in the first quarter and narrowly held onto the lead at the final buzzer.  Dajour Rucker led the first-quarter surge, scoring 11 of his 17 points throughout the first eight minutes of play and propelled the Dolphins to a 21- 14 lead. The Cougars narrowed the gap in the second quarter, holding Cape Henry to nine points while netting 13 to bring the score to 30-27 in favor of the Dolphins at the half. Returning to the floor for the second half, the Dolphins struggled to retain possession of the ball with the high-pressure defense of Surry County. At the end of the third quarter, Cape Henry held onto the lead, 43-38. A tightly contested fourth quarter came down to the wire, as Cape Henry came up with a crucial stop with seconds left to hold on to win, 54-53. The Dolphins were led by Dajour Rucker’s 17 points, with Danny Banister adding 12 and Christian Moore netting nine. The Dolphins (2-0) are back in action Friday and Saturday for the John Stone Tournament at Christchurch with tip-off set for 7:30 pm on Friday night.
