CHC Field Hockey Wins TCIS Semi-Finals in OT

Field Hockey- CHC 2, Bishop Sullivan 1 (OT)

The Dolphins hosted the Crusaders from Bishop Sullivan on Wednesday night, and as regulation play ended with a tie score, the Dolphins scored the golden goal to advance to the TCIS finals on Friday night. The Dolphins were held scoreless throughout the first half of play, despite pounding the Crusader keeper with nearly 15 shots in the opening frame. However, the Dolphins’ defense limited Bishop Sullivan’s chances with a stellar effort and holding the Crusader scoreless. With the match tied, 0-0, the teams took to the sideline for halftime preparations. The Dolphins had the chances, and the halftime focus was on finishing the chances on frame. With 12 minutes remaining in regulation, Lexia Hann found Livy Wallace across the circle and the Dolphins took a 1-0 lead after Wallace touched the ball passed the Crusader goalie. The Crusaders quickly answered, tying the game at 1-1. The Dolphins controlled possession in the Crusader’s defensive half for the final 10 minutes but could not bury the ball in the back of the cage. Regulation concluded with the Dolphins and Crusaders even at 1-1, and the teams prepared for a Golden Goal, 7 vs. 7 overtime period. It was not long before the Dolphins were on a breakaway led by Alexandra Land and Claire Bingham, resulting in a corner attempt for Cape Henry. Olivia Zettervall fed a perfect ball to Ali Gordon who ended overtime with one crack of the stick, scoring the game-winning goal three minutes into OT. The Dolphins will travel to the Sportsplex on Friday night to take on the Bulldogs from Norfolk Academy in the TCIS Finals beginning at 6:00 pm.
