CHC Finishes 4th in TCIS Tournament

The Dolphins began the TCIS Tournament on Thursday afternoon and resumed play on Friday morning with an impending storm heading towards Virginia Beach. After two days of play, the Dolphins finished the Conference tournament in 4th place with five 5th place finishes and one 2nd place finish in singles play. The Dolphins also placed 4th, 5th, and 6th in doubles play, giving Cape Henry 39 points at the conclusion of the tournament. On Thursday afternoon, Halle Speight and Caroline Dixon teamed up to earn a first-round win over NSA before losing back to back matches against NA and Norfolk Christian respectively. The results was enough to earn the pair a 4th place doubles finish. On the #2 court, Rachel Moore and Stephanie Strickland finished in 6th place after a loss to Norfolk Collegiate, a win over Bishop Sullivan, and a loss to Walsingham. On the #1 Doubles court, Fiona Clunan and Charlotte Brown took home a 5th place finish with wins over Walsingham and Hampton Roads Academy and the lone loss coming in the opening round against Steward.

In Singles play, Halle Speight highlighted the day with a 2nd place finish after entering the tournament as the Dolphins’ highest seed– entering as the second overall #6. En route to her 2nd place finish, Halle earned an opening round win over NSA before taking down her Norfolk Christian opponent in the semifinal. In the Finals, Halle’s Norfolk Academy opponent was able to squeeze out the win after an exciting match. The remaining Dolphin athletes, Makenna DeTorres, Stephanie Strickland, Rachel Moore, Charlotte Brown, and Fiona Clunan, all finished the TCIS tournament in 5th place. The Dolphins await the final State Tournament rankings but will likely enter the Division II State Tournament as the 7th seed beginning on Tuesday, November 6.
