Grit and Determination are Not Enough vs NA Bulldogs

Tennis- CHC 0, Norfolk Academy 9

The Dolphins hosted the Bulldogs from Norfolk Academy on Monday night, and despite a 0-9 loss for Cape Henry, the girls showed a vast improvement from the matchup in the previous season. Fiona Clunan and Charlotte Brown took their Bulldog opponents down to the wire in doubles play, and while ultimately falling 8-4, Clunan and Brown earned three sets more than the previous meeting. Stephanie Strickland fell in her first set 6-0 and put her mental toughness on display to take three games in the second set, but eventually lost 6-3. After falling 6-1 in the first set, Rachel Moore battled to take an extra game in the second set but could not overcome her opponent in the 6-2 second set loss. On the #6 Court, Halle Speight displayed similar grit seen by Moore. After falling 6-0 in the first set, Halle’s mental toughness was on full display to earn two games in the 6-2 loss. The Dolphins (4-4) will travel to Peninsula Catholic on Thursday for the second conference match-up of the week.
