Soccer- CHC 0, Richmond Collegiate 1

The #3 Dolphins traveled to Richmond on Friday for a matchup with #8 Collegiate and returned with a 0-1 loss after 90 minutes of play despite carrying possession throughout the night. Playing the Dolphins’ brand of soccer, building the attack through thoughtful passes out of the defensive third, Cape Henry forced a comfortable pace to the match. The Cougars’ defensive unit kept Collegiate in the match despite Cape Henry’s control of the ball in the opposing half of the pitch until, in the 35th minute, the Dolphins were caught on a counter, with the Cougars swinging a cross into the box and finished off by Collegiate for the night’s first score. Collegiate carried the 1-0 lead into the second half of play, where Cape Henry stepped up the attacking presence and searched for the equalizer in the final 45 minutes. The Cougars’ keeper faced a handful of shots, coming up with crucial saves to thwart the Dolphins’ attack. However, John Ermini gave Cape Henry a fighting chance, coming up with crucial saves to keep the score at 1-0. With the final whistle sounding, Collegiate pulled out the 1-0 victory over the Dolphins. Cape Henry (5-2) will look to rebound as they travel to Steward School on Friday, October 5 for a conference matchup with Spartans.
