Rachel Moore – Athlete of the Week – October 13, 2017

This week’s Athlete of the Week, Sophomore Rachel Moore, is in her second year on the Varsity Girl’s Tennis team. After competing as the team’s #5 singles player last year, Rachel has stepped up to the challenge of competing as Cape Henry’s #3 singles player and on the #2 doubles court.

“I have been fortunate enough to coach Rachel and watch her grow since 6th grade, through Middle School, JV, and Varsity,” Assistant Coach Jacquelyn West continued. “Each and every year, she comes back a better player and a stronger competitor. Last year she played the #5 court on Varsity and this year she has moved up to the #3 spot.”

The competition may be tougher on the top three courts, but this has not deterred Rachel from competing with the best. Rachel picked up four important conference wins last week in singles and doubles play. She was dominant in her singles win against Bishop Sullivan, and continued her success into her next match with her second singles win of the week coming against Walsingham Academy.

Usually coaches will boast about an athlete’s numbers and record. There is no exception with Rachel, but her value and contribution cannot be defined by just these accomplishments.

“It makes a coach proud to witness the character and the class Rachel brings to the court each day,” Head Coach Diane Deaton continued. “Rachel won her matches last week, but what reflects on the program is the way she wins. Rachel wins with class, with character, and always with top of the line sportsmanship. Rachel truly is a coach’s dream.”

It is apparent Rachel has earned the respect of her coaches, her teammates, and her opponents with her dedication to the sport and commitment to the Cape Henry Tennis program. Rachel and the rest of the Dolphins look to build off last week’s success and finish the 2017-2018 Girl’s Tennis season strong!
