Humans of Cape Henry: Madisen Patrick – Class of 2019

Background:

Madison lived in Minnesota until 3rd grade attending Breck elementary school there until she moved to Virginia Beach and has attended Cape Henry from 3rd to 12th grade and looks to graduate next June. Madisen has an older sister who attended Cape Henry, a mother, and a father at home.

Interests:

Madisen’s favorite subject is Math and in particular Calculus. She loves working with numbers and the theoretical aspect of math. She plays the trumpet in the Jazz band which practices every morning. She is also on 4 varsity sports teams including basketball, cross country, track, and lacrosse.

Something most people don’t know about her:

When Madisen was asked what is something most people don’t know about you she responded, “That I’m in the Jazz Band.” In the Cape Henry community if you ask someone if they know Madisen they will most likely say, yes she is a great athlete. But she is also a superior student and is a great musician.

Best Experiences:

Madisen went on a Nexus trip to Norway last year with other Cape Henry students and faculty and absolutely loved it. She liked the scenery and seeing all of the mountains. In her 8th grade year, she got to experience winning the TCIS championship in girls basketball.

Accomplishments:

When it comes to sports Madisen has won numerous awards. She has won Cross Country MVP 3 times, Basketball MVP, and girls Lacrosse MVP twice. She looks to add more to that trophy case this year in her senior year.

Tough Experiences:

Madisen said that the toughest experience in her lifetime was losing the lacrosse state championship. She felt as if they were better than the other team and they lost a long hard fought battle. She was a captain on that girl’s lacrosse team so she took that loss personally and she feels that loss has helped make her a better captain and teammate.

Lessons Learned:

From losing that lacrosse state championship she learned that “Winning isn’t everything” and after a loss like that you just have to bounce back and try again the next year.

Hopes and Plans for the future:

Madisen is a huge fan of Virginia Tech so she hopes to attend college there but applied undecided because she’s not sure what she wants to major in. She isn’t sure if she wants to play a sport there; her favorite sport out of the ones she plays is girls lacrosse and she might look to pursue that in college.
