For some students, their time at Cape Henry started before the first week of school.  This was the case with Wladimir Gassant, (‘19). His first day was actually on the Wednesday before school started, where the Men’s Varsity soccer team took on their rivals from North Carolina, First Flight High School.  Wlad’s favorite moment of the year so far is when Cape Henry scored their first goal of the season in their 2-1 year. Wlad, who is one of three captains on the team this year, is very optimistic about this upcoming season.  However, Wlad says that the biggest struggle of his first week has been writing his essay on his book in English class. As English is not his native language, it is an even bigger challenge for him to write than the rest of his classmates.  He must work extra hard, which is what makes his success so remarkable. Overall, Wlad is happy to be back at Cape Henry, where he says “it is such a wonderful community because everybody cares about each other.”
