The Dolphins competed in their second regatta of the season on Sunday at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, and the team turned in it’s best performance to date. The boys finished second in the petite final after qualifying in two previous heats. They won a very close race for 2nd place as they lurched forward at the finish to beat another team. The girls also did very well, finishing 3rd in the petite final after qualifying in an earlier heat, where they were only seconds off the winner. The team looks to build on these positive results as they enter their final regatta of the season this weekend. The Dolphins take part in the Independent School Regatta on Sunday at Lakewood Park. The meet also serves as the Dolphins Senior Day celebration.

Baseball – St. Christopher’s 5, CHC 4 (11 innings)
The Dolphins traveled to Richmond on Saturday to take on St. Christopher’s School, and the teams needed 11 innings to earn a decision. After tying the game in the bottom of the 6th inning, the Saints scored the game’s next run in the bottom of the 11th, sending a walk-off single to left field for the game-winning running, securing a 5-4 victory over the Dolphins. Cape Henry had leads of 1-0 (1st inning), 3-2 (4th inning), and 4-3 (6th inning), but it couldn’t hold any of the advantages beyond the Saints next at bat. Hunter Ramirez led the offense with two hits and one RBI while Matt Ballance, Jay Kellam, Matt Megge, Aiden Kuhle, John Hawley, Clay Willis and Max Thurbon each had one hit. Kellam, Megge and Thurbon each had one RBI as well. Megge, Kellam, Noah LeBrun and Will Schaier shared the pitching load, throwing 10 and two-thirds innings while giving up just three earned runs. The loss drops the Dolphins to 7-8 overall, and they get back to action this afternoon when they host Norfolk Christian (4:30pm).

Track – Walsingham Academy Meet
The Cape Henry track team competed at the Walsingham Academy track meet on Saturday, but the team’s results were not counted as official due to being a Division 1 program in a Division 2 meet. The Dolphins knew this prior to the competition and chose to compete regardless. The boys 4x800m relay team continued its remarkable season. The group of Chandler Averette, Jack Wren, Rex Serpe and Justin Dubik reset their own school record with a time of 8:47.99. Chandler Averette followed that effort by setting a new school record in the boys mile, finishing with a blazing time of 4:37. The girls were led by new addition, Kendall Hathaway, who set a new school record in the 200m with a time of 27.23. Hazel Tankard set a new school record in the discus, throwing 77ft, 6in. The Dolphins continue to set school records and personal bests and are looking strong heading into the TCIS meet on May 10th.
