The CHC varsity softball team dropped its 2016 season opener at Hampton Roads Academy in an action packed game played on a beautiful St. Patrick’s Day. Pitching her first full game for Cape Henry, sophomore Laura Zettervall kept the opposition off balance while striking out six batters and playing stellar defense at her position. Seniors MacKenzie Cafferty, Mariel Kondas, and birthday girl Izzy Haddad played tough defense and provided much of the offense for the team. Making her softball debut, freshman Merry Jiang caught the entire game and combined with Zettervall on the game’s best play with an assist on a tag out at home in the final inning. The Dolphins roster has seven freshman and two sophomores, so each game provides much needed experience that will help come playoff time in May. Cape Henry looks forward to its home opener against Atlantic Shores next Thursday. Come out and support this exciting and spirited group of Cape Henry student-athletes.
